I always wished I had one!!!
(When I was in Ireland, I tried to make my husband buy me one… My suggestions did not work)
    ^^

  • Athena's Pix:

    There’s the internet, Siri!! A bit of arm-twisting or something…. ;-) ))))

  • spangleann:

Lovely, I’ve always liked those rings but didn’t realise there was a name or meaning to them.

  • vadrefjord:

    Great shot Athena. Wonderful detail!

  • SiRiChandra:

Mhh… I will try with arm-twisting for another trip to Ireland and, if it does not work, for a quick buy on the Internet!

  • Athena's Pix:

Ann; thanks. Yes they were, I think, once used in Claddagh as wedding rings, but I could be wrong there. In any case they do have the dual friendship/romantic meaning. ie they can be worn for either, depending on the way around! Google for the details.

Vadrefjord: thanks, it took a while to get right grrr!

Siri: yes do! Best in summer when you have the light to take all those lovely places! And if that doesn’t happen then the Net!

  • Jarl van Hoother:

That’s a real nice macro, lovely depth of field – you must have very steady hands, keep off the gin!

  • Athena's Pix:

Thank you Maestro for the Fave and comment! You can only imagine my pain to get this shot!!! I think I need a gin to destress my shaky hands after it all!! :-) )))

  • (Gary):

    Fantastic Close-up!

Seen In The Group, That’s Getting Up Close!

  • doubleewe:

Love the claddagh. My husband gave one to me on our first anniversary of dating (1984) and his wedding ring is a claddagh. Traditionally, they are silver. If the tip of the heart is pointed toward your heart, you are taken. If it is pointed away, you are not.

    Great dof on the shot.

    W

  • Athena's Pix:

    Gary: Thanks once again :-)

Doubleewe: I guess everyone has their own story of Claddagh in their lives! Thanks for story and compliment W :-) )

  • franzburghart:

Yeah, I think most of us have had one at some time! I had a silver one in my teens.

  • johndugganfoto:

Nice shot , wonder if you ever heard the song "the old claddagh ring "

  • Athena's Pix:

"The old claddagh ring, sure it was my grandmother’s
She wore it a lifetime and gave it to me"

Thanks, John for visit, comment and fave! And also for reminding me of the song, I had long forgotten! (I’m Irish, but living in UK.)

  • spearbearer:

    Iconic. Like it…

  • Athena's Pix:

Beautiful close-up of fine rings. Thanks for licensing the photo under CC – it’s been used to illustrate a piece about the history of Claddagh rings.
